1 . GENERAL INFORMATION .
The Department of Economics offers both undergraduate (B.A) and graduate (M.S and Ph.D.) degrees in economics. The modern analytical and quantitative methods of economics are emphasized, not merely as tools but as part of an overall approach to train students in systematic and independent critical thinking.
The undergraduate program offers a wide range of courses in all fields of economics and the students graduate with a very strong overall background in economics. For the majority of our graduates who go on to professional careers in the private and public sector, the economics education they receive at Çukurova University constitutes a very solid base to develop more applied skills. Those who go on to graduate school, both in Turkey and abroad, have been successful with their analytical background.
The department has three subdivisions namely Economic Theory and History, Economic Development and International Economics, Economic Policy. All these subdivisions have their own research areas to do postgraduate education and national and international research projects. Undergraduate education is offered by two groups; one of them is in Turkish and the other is in English. Under intensive English economics programme at least 30 % of the courses should be offered in English. In this department there are 5 professors, 1 associate professor, 6 assistant professors, 2 faculty members holds a Ph. D., 18 research assistants.

2 . Currıculum .
The program offers a remarkably wide range of options including certain applied issues as economic growth, development, economic history, monetary policy, econometrics, international trade, political economy, EU integration, industrial relations.
The specialized advanced courses of the program are designed to prepare students for careers in government, private sector, banking and higher education for academic career. Academic posts, research departments of major state and commercial banks and posts in the public sector requiring independent research and analytical capability.
The extent of the courses is measured by the number of lessons-academic hour- per week, abbreviated as LPW. Depending on the respective type, all the courses require more or less some self-responsible preparation and revision. The real time needed for your studies per week is at least twice the amount of the LPWs.
All the courses are terminated by final exams; in addition most of the courses of studies have intermediate exams. These exams comprise the material for the relevant semester. However, in order to fulfill the prerequisites for the intermediate or the final exams, and to let the student know the present state of his achievement, performance tests are offered for most of the individual courses at the end of the respective semester. For the SOCRATES student, these tests serve as the basis for awarding credits.
