1-GENERAL INFORMATION

The Department of frenche teacher training is one of the three main sciences sections of University of Çukurova, Foreign Language Deparment. The department has a yearly quota of 30 incoming students.

At the department, one year preparation class and four year license program are implemented. Also, master and doctorate programs are conducted which are convenient to quotas predicted.  At the department, the educational language for BA, MA and PHD is Frech but in some lessons it is Turkish. 

The students could pass DELF exam organised each year in our department which is regional center of DELF exam.

The department grants students and research assistants in France in relation with the French Center of Izmir and receive students from France for practicum.

İn 2002-2003 academical year, 92 BA, 6 MA and 5 PHD totally 103 students are educated.

At the department, 12 academicians are working (one professor, two assistant professors, four research assistants and five lecturers, two of them are French) and one secretary of department.

2- CURRICULUM

The major aim of the department of French teacher training is to educate teachers for primary and secondary schools.

The students who are admitted in this department pass an exam (writing and speaking) to evaluate their level in French. If they succeed, they can begin in the first class. If not, they attend in preparatory class where they learn the basic language. At the end of this class, they pass an exam (writing and speaking). If they succeed, they can begin the undergraduate courses in the first class.

The studies continue for 4 years. In the first year of our BA program, as the continuation of the preparatory class, there is a French grammar related to four basic language skills, speaking, reading listening and writing courses. In the

second year program, there are various courses of science and teaching, like Linguistics, Literature, reading, writing superior skills courses. The 3th and 4th year programs are related to field knowledge, formation of teaching foreign language an application of teaching.

Students are grated by exams ( Writing- speaking ), and by seminars.

During the 7th and 8th semester, the students attend to practicum in state shcools where French is taught as foreign language. These schools are predicted by the Faculty of education.
