1 . GENERAL INFORMATION .

Econometrics has been defined as a method of quantitative analyzing of economic theory.  Issues of economics are being evaluated using tools provided by statistical and mathematical techniques so that they come out as clear results to interpret. Department of Econometrics at Cukurova University covers working fields that are contents of economics theory, but they are considered in a quantitative way.  Department is combined of three major disciplines which are econometrics, operational research, statistics and same pattern of class schedule is pursued during the whole undergraduate program. Undergraduate program is weighted with classes of econometrics, operational research, statistics, mathematics, computer applications, but other classes related to law, business and finance are taught in introductory level. In testing the structure of theory, several homeworks and projects are carried out and seminar requirement is held at the last semester.

Graduates having the ability of numerical analyzing techniques and analytical way of thinking evaluate the microeconomic and macroeconomic issues in numerical way and they obtain the testable and unambiguous results. Therefore they are employed by research and analyzing departments of public and private sectors. E
conometrics  education is a four-year undergraduate program. The department has three subdivisions namely Econometrics, Operational Research, Statistics.  All these subdivisions have their own research areas to do postgraduate education and national and international research projects. Undergraduate education are two groups; one of them is in Turkish and the other group is minimum 30% must be in English.  Department has 13 academicians and 1 secretary of Department; 1 full time  professor, 1 full time associate professor, 4 full time  assistant professors , 3 research assistants (PhD.) , 2 research assistants and 2 Computer Science Lecturers.

2 . Currıculum .

Econometrics is more related to quantitative methods in anlysing economics. Therefore graduate program is more focused on mathematical and statistical methods making students talented with numerical analysis.

The program is aimed to prepare students for careers in especially research departments of government and private sector and for academic careers.

The extent of the courses is measured by the number of lessons-academic hour- per week, abbreviated as LPW. Depending on the respective type, all the courses require more or less some self-responsible preparation and revision. The real time needed for your studies per week is at least twice the amount of the LPWs.

All the courses of studies (degree courses) are terminated by final exams; in addition most of the courses of studies have intermediate exams after the second year. These exams comprise the material of several semesters. However, in order to fulfill the prerequisites for the intermediate or the final exams, and to let the student know the present state of his achievement, performance tests are offered for most of the individual courses at the end of the respective semester. For the SOCRATES student, these tests serve as the basis for awarding credits.

4 . Graduate Courses

Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in econometrics is a 30-credit-hour program. All students are to take microeconomic, macroeconomis and econometrics clasesses and to complete a master’s thesis. Students work on modeling economic theory using econometric methods and they learn to analysis these models. For getting to this point, they first need to get the knowledge about theory of econometrics. Besides, mathematics and by the same token mathematical economics are the essential subjects for the program. Economics courses are also to be taken to know about the structure of economic theory. Therefore, graduate students take various courses from department of econometrics, mathematics and economics while econometrics courses are more focused on. Graduates with the advanced knowledge of econometric methods are employed by research department of private and government sector firms, and government organizations, and they may pursue academic career.
