The main purpose of the subdepartment is to teach courses about pedagogical formation such as “Introduction to Educational Sciences”, “Planning and Evaluation in Education”, “Classroom Menagement” to all other departments that prepare teachers for various curriculum areas and do researches in the area of curriculum development, learning and teaching. Another purpose of the subdepartment is to give graduate (master degree and doctoral degree) education in the area of curriculum and instruction. Various studies have been done by the subdepartment faculties in the foolwing areas: Learning and teaching theories, educational technology, women education, teaching thinking, democracy and education, total quality menagement in education, classroom menagement, problems of higher education, social studies education, cooperetive learning, educational administration, informal education, comparative education, critical and creative thinking, content organization approaches, darama in education. There are one full professor, 3 asst. professors, three instructors, and eight research assistants at the subdepartment. There are two different master degrees and one doctoral program at the subdepartment. First master degree program is for students who got an undergraduate degree in educational sciences and classroom teaching departments. Proficiency in a foreign language is required to begin the program. It lasts total 2 years, one year course taking and one year thesis. Second master degree program is for students who got an undergraduate degree other than educational sciences and classroom teaching. There is a 18 credits (30 ECTS credits) scientific preparation program which every student in this program should take before beginning the regular master degree program. Proficiency in a foreign language is also required before beginning the program. Both the first and the second master degree programs require minimum 21 credits course taking (60 ECTS credits) and a master thesis. Doctoral program consists of minimum 21 credits (60 ECTS credits) course taking and a dissertation study. This program lasts minimum three years. Grading systmen at the subdepartment as follows: FF=0.00, FD= 0.50, DD= 1.00, DC= 1.50, CC= 2.00, CB= 2.50, BB= 3.00, BA= 3.50, AA= 4.00: In master degree program, CC is required to pass a course but BB is required as mean to be graduated. In doctoral degree program, CB is required to pass a course but BA is required as mean to be graduated. After completing courses, a research study as thesis and dissertaions is required to complete the degrees.
