1.GENERAL INFORMATION

The field of Computer Educatıon and Instructıonal Technology, is a new field in our country and getting bigger every year. This field is an interdisciplinary field, and combines together the different disciplines; Instructional design, communication,  psychology,  development and learning,  computer scienses.

At 1999-2000, for undergraduate program,and  at  2000-2001 for  graduate  program, first students were accepted to the department.

Undergraduate program, is combination of  arts and sciences such as math, physics, biology,chemistry, and use of new technologies. Students are involved,  design, development, application, and evaluation of all kinds of educational media. And  these studies are supported with project-based activities.

Undergrduate program is sum of 4 years which are included 2 semesters. In Cukurova University, Language of education is Turkish.

      Number of academic staff: 10 (1 prof. 2  asst.prof, 2 instructor, 5 research assistant).

Fields of Study: Instructional Design,  Internet Based Distance Education, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Literacyı , Computer Assisted Instruction, Cnstructiist Learning, Drama in Education, Methods of Effective learning.

       Ongoing programs and history;

      a) Computer Educatıon and Instructıonal Technology Undergraduate Program:    

It is established  in 1999. In this period, 185 students were accepted.  Normal termination period of the department  is 4 years. At  2003,  first accepted stuents will be graduated.

      b) Computer Educatıon and Instructıonal Technology Graduate Program:

It is established  in 2000-2001 fall semester. In this period, 185 students were accepted.  So far, from 199 applicants, only 40 students were accepted  tothe graduate program

2.CURRICULUM

            Because of the department is based on an interdisciplinary field,  courses  in curriculum can be divided into two subcategories.    

·        Computer Sciences  ( Internet, Programming, Graphical  Design, Operating Systems etc..)

·        Educational Sciences  (Theories of Teaching and Learning, Special Methods of teaching etc..)

For  studies related with computer sciences,   courses are generally based on project-based activities.

These activities are supported with homeworks and group projects.

Courses occured under the field of Educational Sciences are, generally theoretical. But  2nd. 7th. and 8th semesters, students are involved in real life teaching experiements in the schools.   

Education in the department is  student-centered, project-based and future-oriented. Each student have to create original products for projects.

Forth year, with the course named Research Methods in Education, students are recommended to academical studies.

4. GRADUATE COURSES

·        Preparatory Courses : BHP 701, BHP 702, BHP 703, BHP 704, BHP 705, BHP 706 are compulsory courses for the students  who did not graduate from the field “Computer Education and Instructional Technology” and  had not take these courses in the undergraduate degree.  The students who took these courses in the undergraduate degree, must prove that with official documents.

·        BTE 701, BTE 702, BTE 712 , EGT 701, EGT  705, EGT 702, EGT 704 are compulsory courses.

·        Rest of the courses are elective

·        Courses are taken into two semesters. (30 ECTS / semester)

·        But  for the students from out of the field, who must take preparatory courses written above, the courses can be taken into four semesters.

·        Each students should prepare a master thesis for  completion of the graduate program.

Course Title:  Information Technology in Education

Semester:First Year, Fall Semester

Course Description:  Information systems in education and introduction to computers. Evolution of computers. Data presentation. Components of computer systems: the CPU, input-output devices, auxillary storage devices. Microcomputers, Operating systems and environments, DOS, Windows. Managing text: processors. Managing numbers: spreadsheets. Impact of computers on society, computer ethics,security.
