General Information The Department of German Language is one of the three main sciences sections of German Language Teaching Department gives its students second language (English) and computer education. Students in this program can also participate in MA and Phd programs. BA program consists of 8 terms (after 2 terms in preparatory class), MA program 4 terms and Phd program 6 terms. At the department, the educational language for BA, MA and Phd is German but in some courses it is Turkish. The number of students and instructors for 2003 and 2004 is as follows: BA- 247 students 2 Professors MA- 3 students 1 Associate Professor Phd- 5 students 6 Assistant Professors 5 Lecturers 2 Research Assistants The evaluation in the program consists of both written and oral exams – at least one midterm and one final for each semester. Curriculum The program offers a remarkably wide range of options including applied issues as German literature and linguistic, comparative linguistics and teaching of German, literature didactics, translation science and structure of German. The specialized advances courses of the program are designed to prepare students for careers in private sector and higher education of academic career. All the courses are terminated by final exams; in addition most of the courses of studies have intermediate exams after the second year. These exams comprise the material for the relevant semester. All the courses require more or less some self-responsible preparation and revision 3. Ahmet DÖNGER DAAD Lecturer Lilly SEIDLER DEPARTMENT FOR GERMAN TEACHER TRAINING GRADUATE PROGRAM Students work toward a 30-credit-hour Master of Arts (M.A.) degree, specializing in teaching German, German literature and linguistics. The MA program aims at training graduates and in-service teachers who wish to pursue further studies in the field combining theory and practice. All of the courses are elective. All students take the courses and complete and defend a master’s thesis. Students must complete the minimum required course load specified by the Department in at least four consecutive semesters and at the end of this period must have CGPA of at least 3.00. Students must enter their thesis examination no later than the end of the sixth semester after beginning the program. 1. SEMESTER
